What is ASYM?

ASYM(metry) resembles the architecture of human anatomy as our natural imbalances empower creative, coordinated, and precise movement, but it can also make us more vulnerable to overuse and repetitive stress. Surfing is a natural expression of how the human body is built to move: with balance, rhythm, and adaptability.

Modern life rewards stillness and the body adapts by trading fluid motion for tightness and strain. An awkward grab-rail lingers as a tight hip after hours at a desk. A drag of the arm that once slowed you in the barrel becomes a strained chest or nagging neck. Add to this surfing’s one-sided stance and endless paddling, and the result is a slow creep of hip rotation, shoulder restriction, and spinal imbalance that chips away at both performance and longevity. This is why training with intent matters.

Intentional and deliberate movement, mobility, and strength training are the primary ways to tackle surfing’s asymmetries before they take root. Built on a foundation of general physical preparedness, enriched with surf-specific technique and individualized coaching, our approach restores efficiency, reinforces resilience, and expands what’s possible in the water—keeping alive the freedom and joy that drew us to the ocean in the first place.
